First Hydrogen Corp. has announced the development of a left-hand drive model of its green hydrogen-powered fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV).
This new hydrogen FCEV configuration aims to expand the Company’s market presence in the United States, Mexico, South America, and Europe, where left-hand drive vehicles are predominant.
Successful UK Trials
The Company’s hydrogen FCEV recently completed four successful trials in the UK.
These trials showcased the vehicle’s performance under various real-world conditions, including carrying heavy payloads, towing, and powering auxiliary equipment without any loss in performance or range, even in colder temperatures.
Drivers reported that the hydrogen FCEV offered ease of drivability, quick refuelling, and an impressive range of 630 km (390 miles) on a single refuelling.
This data provided valuable insights, comparing the FCEV’s performance to that of battery-electric and internal combustion engine vehicles.
Europe’s commitment to hydrogen technology
Europe is making significant strides towards diversifying its energy sources and reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
The European Commission has approved four waves of hydrogen Integrated Projects of Common European Interest (IPCEIs), aiming to raise €43bn.
These 120 projects, involving around 100 European companies, span the entire hydrogen ecosystem from production to end-use.
This initiative supports the EU’s goal of becoming the first climate-neutral continent by 2050.
Furthermore, the Commission will invest an additional €200m to support hydrogen ecosystems in specific regions, such as ports, industrial zones, and airports, known as hydrogen valleys.
This effort will enhance cooperation with international partners on clean hydrogen deployment and market development.
Hydrogen initiatives in the US
In the US, California has taken the lead by establishing the nation’s first-ever hydrogen hub backed by the Department of Energy (DOE) as part of the Biden Administration’s plan to fund seven hydrogen hubs nationwide.
The California Hydrogen Hub has been awarded $1.2bn to advance clean hydrogen projects, contributing to the $7bn in grants announced for regional hydrogen production hubs.
CEO’s vision for a zero-emission future
Balraj Mann, Group CEO of First Hydrogen, expressed his enthusiasm for the Company’s progress and the benefits of hydrogen-powered fuel cell vehicles.
He said: ” We are excited to show markets the advantages of a hydrogen-power-fuel-cell vehicle.
“During the Wales and West Utilities trial, in wintery conditions, we were able to demonstrate our FCEV was able to sustain performance levels, while with a battery electric vehicle, there is a loss of performance the colder the weather.
“Green hydrogen provides sustainability and zero emission, reducing the carbon footprint and contributing to decarbonisation goals.
“Our FCEVs utilising green hydrogen will be greenhouse gas emission-free, with the only byproduct being water. We are trying to do our part for a zero-emission future.”
First Hydrogen Corp’s initiative to develop a left-hand drive FCEV underscores its commitment to innovation and sustainability in the automotive industry.
By expanding its market reach and participating in global efforts to adopt green hydrogen, the Company is positioned at the forefront of the clean energy movement.
