Swedish life sciences organisations join PRECISEU project to advance precision medicine

Four leading members of the Swedish life sciences community have joined the PRECISEU project to advance European precision medicine.

The PRECISEU project is an EU-funded initiative that aims to connect European innovation ecosystems to advance personalised healthcare for citizens.

The project will scale up deep-tech healthcare innovations, focusing on advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs) and health data by transferring best practices and solutions across regions.

Now, Sahlgrenska Science Park and Business Region Göteborg (BRG), in collaboration with Region Västra Götaland and Sahlgrenska University Hospital, have taken major roles in the project.

Cecilia Edebo, CEO of Sahlgrenska Science Park, commented: “We are proud to represent Sweden and actively contribute to this strategically important international project.

“Developing a roadmap and collaboration model to advance precision medicine at the European level places us at the forefront of shaping the future of healthcare.”

This five-year initiative, with a budget of €22.7m, half funded by Horizon Europe, unites regional authorities, academic institutions, NGOs, and innovators.

Participants include scientists and entrepreneurs from Spain, Germany, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, Sweden, Greece, Romania, Bulgaria, Lithuania, and Ukraine.

Swedish involvement

Sahlgrenska Science Park will spearhead efforts to enhance market access, industry growth, and patient accessibility in precision medicine.

Business Region Göteborg will collaborate to identify existing ATMP hubs, capacities, and technology owners.

Patrik Andersson, CEO of Business Region Göteborg, added: “Engaging in this consortium aligns perfectly with our vision to foster a dynamic and innovative business environment in West Sweden.

“The project’s focus on advanced therapies and health data integration is particularly exciting and promising for our region.

“This initiative, alongside the establishment of CCRM Nordic in Gothenburg, further solidifies Gothenburg’s position as a leading hub for life science and health innovation.”

Region Västra Götaland will support Sahlgrenska Science Park’s contributions to PRECISEU through regional development funding.

Additionally, Sahlgrenska University Hospital will play a key role as a collaboration partner.
